Color Your World: How to Incorporate the Color of the Year Into Your Wardrobe

Pantone’s 2014 color of the year is drumroll please…. Radiant Orchid! This purple hue will definitely standout this year. I was especially exited about the choice of color of the year because it happens to be my favorite color! I always feel so regal when I wear purple.  Pantone says the color is “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love, and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” I love this shade of purple because it looks good on all skin tones and suits both men and women. Love it or hate it, Radiant Orchid will defiantly be prevalent in the year 2014. Here are some of my picks to incorporate the color into your wardrobe.

An introduction

Hey everyone! My name is Rachel Pittman.
I am majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in fashion merchandising at The University of North Texas. My dream is to incorporate my passions, broadcast journalism, fashion, and entertainment into my career. My blog will mainly consist of outfit posts, my journalism reports, food & store reviews, and the random adventures that go on in my life!

As a child, I was always coming up with skits for my friends and I to act out. I was heavily involved with theatre all the way through most of high school. Then in tenth grade I took a TV News production class where you learned how to make news packages, interview people, and the techniques of being an on air talent. That class made me fall in love with broadcast journalism. I realized I could make my passions of storytelling, fashion, and arts & entertainment into a career.

Advancing to the state level at the Skills USA broadcast journalism competition.

Right now I am trying to perfect my craft by learning all aspects of the industry- writing, editing, being on camera, doing stand ups, interviewing people, and much more. I volunteer as a reporter for my school’s TV news station, NTTV to gain more experience. Hopefully in the near future, I will land an internship at a news station and work in the field that I love!

"Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the word who we are and who we’d like to be." I could not agree with this quote more. Fashion is art that you live your life in. Fashion is in our everyday lives whether or not you have a passion for it or not. I've always liked fashion, but I truly fell head over heels in love with fashion at the beginning of 2013. After going through a bit of a slump in the previous year, I needed a change and a change of wardrobe was the first thing I started with. The more I came up with different outfit combinations and experimented with fashion, the better I got at styling outfits.
I've always experimented with fashion even at a young age. Sometimes risks like the one above do not end up on the best dressed list.

I found a new passion in life that I knew I wanted to pursue. I realized that I would love to incorporate both fashion and journalism into a career. My fashion philosophy is to strive to dress your absolute best. The better you dress, the better you feel about yourself. You never know who you will run into! I believe that people do notice when you put effort into your appearance.

My personal style can't be put into a single category. I guess you can say I have multiple personality disorder when it comes to my personal style. Sometimes I like to dress bohemian and other times I like to dress rocker chic. I like to have a basic element and dress them up with statement pieces. I usually don't spend more than $40 on an article of clothing. Since I am a college student, I am all about looking chic at an affordable price. One of my favorite colors in fashion is black. I probably wear too much black in my wardrobe but Neiman Marcus once said "women who wear black lead colorful lives." I feel like fashion is meant to be experimented with and you should have fun trying out different looks.

I hope the fashion part of my blog will help you to get out of your usual fashion rut (t-shirts, nike shorts, and yoga pants/ leggings, and sweatpants everyday, yes we've all been there) and limit your comfy clothes attire to a few times a week. I can't wait to share with you my fashion finds, news stories, and entertainment finds! Thank you so much for reading!
